About

15,000 YEARS IS LONG ENOUGH.

For generations beyond counting, descendants of Paleolithic hunter-gatherer communities have lived without meaningful recognition, restitution, or a comprehensive federal response to the loss of ancestral lands, traditional migration corridors, megafauna-dependent livelihoods, and culturally appropriate cave-compatible housing.

The National Coalition for Paleolithic Justice is working to change that.

The moment

A question history has left unresolved.

America has held difficult conversations about history. One conversation remains conspicuously absent: what is owed to the descendants of the people who were here before virtually everyone else?

The passage of millennia does not, by itself, answer that question.

Our priorities

A federal agenda for unfinished business.

Four priorities shape the Coalition’s work: restitution, recognition, housing, and climate restoration.

01

Restitution

Establish a national framework for evaluating ancestral land claims, displacement, and the intergenerational consequences of approximately fifteen millennia of unresolved historical change.

02

Recognition

Create formal federal recognition of Paleolithic-descended communities and acknowledge the contributions of hunter-gatherer peoples to the human story.

03

Housing

Advance a national Cave-Compatible Housing Standard so that working families are not forced to choose between economic opportunity and culturally appropriate geological shelter.

04

Climate Restoration

Ensure that climate policy considers the needs of historically displaced cold-adapted megafauna and the descendants of communities whose traditional lifeways developed under dramatically different climatic conditions.

We are not asking America to live in the past. We are asking America to finally pay attention to it.

NEXT STEPS

Research. Eligibility. Civic Engagement.

The Coalition is building the institutional infrastructure for a question measured not in election cycles, but in millennia. Explore the research, understand the policy agenda, check your classification, and take part in a peaceful, evidence-conscious national conversation about unfinished history.

Recognition, historical inquiry, restitution, habitat restoration, housing equity, and civic awareness concerning the descendants and legacies of Paleolithic hunter-gatherer communities.
